Italia - Birds at the Vatican

On my Friday morning walk, I went to see Vatican City. I didn’t have much time, so I was limited to just exploring Saint Peter’s Square and seeing Saint Peter's Basilica from the outside.

The first shot was from far away on Terrazza del Pincio when it was still pitch black outside using my 50-140mm f2.8 on a tripod.

As I walked towards the Saint Peter’s Basilica, a minor rainstorm was brewing behind me. The rain caught up to me shortly after I left, but the photos below show the difference in the sky in front and behind me. These were shot on my 10-24 f4 wide angle lens.

There were so many birds flocking around that I got a bit distracted and started doing some avian portraiture using the max range on my 50-140mm lens.

One of these birds is not like the others…

As I walked back towards the conference, I got a nice natural frame from the other side of the Tiber River.
