Italia - Cinque Terre Part 1: Monterosso and Vernazza

We spent 2 nights in Monterosso exploring the 5 towns that make up Cinque Terre: a string of five old fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria region.

Until recently, these villages were linked only by mule tracks (now hiking trails) and accessible only by rail or water. Even now, the hiking trails aren’t quite all that accessible, with several closed off due to landslides. However, the one from Monterosso to Vernazza was open, so after establishing our home base in Monterosso, we embarked on our hike to Vernazza, chasing the light of golden hour.

All shot on my Fujifilm X-T3 with either my 50-140mm f2.8, 10-24mm f4, or 35mm f2. Click the photos to expand!

The view from our B&B was not bad…

A photogenic lock guards a local vineyard.

Vernazza came into sight during golden hour, but upon arrival, blue hour was already nearly over.

Vernazza in blue hour, with a train speeding by…

I’m a big fan of the dark aesthetic of the train tunnels at night.
